Good Art is a Clear thinking about Mixed Feelings
— W.H.Auden

Art in my view is different from craft in its intent and hopefully its effect in evoking an emotional reaction from its viewer. Whether it is a second look, a knowing smile of acknowledgment, an out-loud guffaw, or perhaps even an epiphany, art is a purposive expression of feelings, and good art is that which is reacted to in some visceral and meaningful way.

Whether the intention involved in an artwork’s creation has any correlation to the beholder’s reaction or understanding is irrelevant to me; people routinely react differently to external stimuli; What is vitally meaningful however, is the intersection where artistic expression meets the viewer’s threshold for an emotional response.

It is my hope that my artwork affects viewer’s consciousness in some manner that elicits a meaningful reaction, even if it is only for a brief moment in time.

This fundamental form of communication is at its most personal level what motivates me as an artist; to use my sensibility and experience, and whatever related skills I can develop to aid in this ephemeral dialog.
